Danny, Matthew, and Carolina have lived on the island for over a decade and all three are available to help make your stay at the Hale a great one. Danny purchased the Hale in 2008 with artist Dawn Roberts (based on Maui) and spent one year restoring it. And in 2009, Danny and Matthew opened the Bed and Breakfast.

Danny, Matthew, and Carolina have lived on the island for over a decade and all three are available to help make your stay at the Hale a great one. Danny purchased the Hale in 2008 with artist Dawn Roberts (based on Maui) and spent one year restoring it. And in 2009, Danny and Matthew opened the Bed and Breakfast.
Danny, originally from Florida, moved to the Big Island in 2004 from Ojai, CA and is a documentary filmmaker He has made several award winning films, including several about the culture and fragile natural worlds of the Hawai'i. His most recent film, SEEDS OF HOPE was shown at the Smithsonian Institute and on PBS Hawaii and focuses on the importance of growing more local food on the islands.
Matthew, originally from Kansas, has been living in Hawai'i since 1996 and before returning in 2009, he managed and opened Borders Bookstores across the globe, including opening and managing the Borders in Hilo. He has also traveled around the world, teaching English in Africa and Korea and is fluent in French. His most recent travels have taken him to Cambodia and Vietnam in 2015.
Danny and Matthew also have a farm in Pahoa and a farm stay vacation rental called the Jungle Farmhouse and are practicing permaculture and organic methods to grow vegetables, tropical fruit and eggs. They also have 4 goats, 2 dogs and 2 cats, and a vietnamese pot belly pig.
Carolina, originally from Los Angeles, CA. came to Hawai'i on a whim and fell in love with the island. Embracing the aloha experience from learning the graceful movements of the hula from her kumu Leilehua Yuen, to the beautiful strength of paddling with canoe clubs, to selling her salsa at the local farmers market. Currently she is learning the fundamentals of off grid living near Volcano with wife Raquel and their dog Rocky. Carolina continues to enjoy her passion of celebrating cultures and communities through sharing good food & times at local events and when at the hale enjoying making you feel at home.
